English
Questions and answers
What people ask
Why do the five lunar calendars disagree?
The calendars divide the lunar month in different ways. Some follow the angle between the moon and the sun, some count the days since the new moon, and some start each day at sunrise or at sunset. So they often differ by a day, sometimes by two. Each calendar is right in its own tradition.
Why is the moon in a different sign than in a printed calendar?
A printed calendar usually gives one sign for a whole day. The moon moves into a new sign every two to three days, at a particular moment, and the app shows that moment in your own time zone.
How precise is it?
The moon, the sun and the planets are worked out with the methods astronomers use, from Jean Meeus's Astronomical Algorithms and the VSOP87 theory. The app is tested against the book's own worked examples and against the published lists of eclipses.
Does the app need the internet?
The calculations run on your phone and work offline. The internet is used for three things only: to load the map when you pick a place or view an eclipse, to look up place names, and to handle payments through Google Play.
Can I choose the language of the app?
By default, the app uses the language of your phone if it is one of its 34 languages, and English otherwise. On Android 13 and later, you can also choose a language for this app alone, in your phone's settings for the app.
How do I cancel the subscription?
In Google Play: tap your profile picture, then Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
Cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends to stop the next payment. You keep everything until the period ends.
